Save our community park

Friends of Banksia Street Reserve
At the intersection of Banksia Street and Elizabeth Drive in Vincentia lies a small green space — the only parkland in our residential area. Locals have used it for decades: to walk to the beach, kick a ball, take a break, or simply enjoy the open space.
Now, this community reserve is at risk. Shoalhaven City Council is planning to close and sell the land to make way for private development — without proper consultation or due process.
We’re a local campaign calling for Council to:
1. Reverse their decision to close and sell the Banksia Street Reserve.
2. Keep the land as public road reserve—so it remains available for current and future community use.
This isn’t just about a patch of grass. It’s about public land, public trust, and the future of our neighbourhood.
This little reserve has always been part of daily life here in Vincentia. It’s where kids play. Where neighbours cross on the way to the beach. Where the Husky Shimano Triathlon sets up water and first aid stations every year. It’s open, unspoiled, and quietly well-used.
We were shocked to learn — without warning — that Council had already voted to sell it. The community found out not through an honest conversation, but through a letter sent just before Christmas, buried in bureaucratic language about a 'road closure'.
We looked into it, and what we found was worrying: no real consultation, no clear justification, and no mention of the land’s true value to the people who live around it.
This campaign was started by local residents who care deeply about this space. We’re not against progress, but we believe decisions about public land should involve the public. We're asking Council to respect this place, its history, and the people who use it — and to keep it in public hands.
Let’s protect this green space for good.
